First thing to realise and get quite clear in our minds is that a ghost is not a spirit person and never can be. A ghost is an effect left on the atmosphere by a person or persons who once did inhabit that particular site.

The answer to what ghosts are can be found in spirit teachings. We know that thought has a living energy and these ghostly impressions are formed by the thoughts of the people who carried out these repetitive tasks, over and over again in their earthly lives. These thoughts are embedded in the very fabric of the place where these actions took place and have been seen a sufficient number of times for the phenomena to be recorded. Once recorded we then have to take into account the power of our own minds, which is immense and not yet fully understood. A suggestion placed into our minds that a ‘white lady will be seen at 10 o’clock in the Ancestors Gallery, usually guarantees a number of sightings.

We can also take the example of someone trapped in their own home, through limited mobility whose thoughts are also trapped within their immediate environment. If they are doing something repetitive, such as an elderly lady knitting while sitting in a rocking chair for many years, the thoughts may remain within the house long after the lady has departed this world and if the conditions are conducive for a sighting, the ghost may be seen continuing the eternal rocking.

There is also the famous example of the Roman Soldiers still marching the roads of Britain but who can only be seen from the waist up as the land has risen since they first marched these roads but, like a video recording continues to play exactly as originally photographed, so does the action replay of these soldiers continue at the same physical level as it did in life.

Contrary to much media, and even mediumistic hype, spirit do not get trapped in time or space and everyone goes into the spirit world when leaving the physical world behind and if you want to test this out with ghosts, speak to them and see what reaction you get. Spirit can communicate but they usually require a medium in order for such communication to take place; ghosts do not communicate with anyone; it would be like expecting the television announcer to respond to you – he is a recording as far as we are concerned and so is a ghost.
