Children, like everyone else who leaves this world behind, are met by family and friends who will look after them. Dependant upon the age of the children is the who they will be with during their formative years. Although we are told by spirit teachers that we are spirit before we came to the earth, to live life in a physical body, it appears that babies and children, upon returning to spirit, are not automatically adults and continue to grow up in the spirit world. It seems that it is necessary to give the spirit the experience of being a baby, a child, an adolescent and then an adult. There are people in the spirit world whose responsibilities are to take care of the children with the assistance of the child’s family members.

The child attends school just as s/he would on earth and enjoys all the pleasures of childhood. It must be stressed, however, that schools in the spirit world are different to those here and readers are referred to the writings of Andrew Jackson Davis, (1826-1910) The Poughkeepsie Seer who regularly visited the Children’s Realm in the world of spirit and studied the method of teaching used. From these visits he started The Progressive Children’s Lyceum which is now part of The Spiritualists’ National Union as its children’s section.
